It is connected with fact that we usually teach to children to say “Oplà!” When they jump. Same concept, first accomplish something and then you can say, you did it. Pardon my basic English.

The first one who tried to express this was our formidable couch Trapattoni and he was working in England. I always use it but never searched the real translation. Literally translations are the worse.

I lived in the uk for 5yrs and 3 of them were in England. At first, I lost so many weight and couldn’t understand the concept of English food lol😂 now, I still don’t think there’s anything so special to tray, but I still miss beans on toast, Greggs and Pret so much! And baked potatoes, mac and cheese and fucking marmite on toast 🥹🤤😅

Grazie Jo! Vorrei solo osservare che forse bisognerebbe mettere in risalto che anche in italiano, in realtà, sarebbe più corretto differenziare i termini da usare. Ad esempio to 'carry the taleble' si può certo tradurre 'porta il tavolo' ma anche in italiano sarebbe più appropriato dire 'spostare il tavolo ' . Anche negli altri esempi vi sono alternative più valide

Not me. I appreciate those dishes. I wouldn't eat them everyday, but from time to time they are really lovely. Pies are good, seafood chowder is just great. Too bad the Brits themselves don't enjoy them enough and often go for meal deals at Tesco and takeaway food.

I love baked beans, roast potatoes, couliflowers with cheddar, apple crubble, scones and turkey with double stuffing ❤

I miss the huge and fantastic variety of pre-packaged sandwiches you get in British supermarkets. And watercress. And Yorkshire puddings. And flageolet beans. And English biscuits of all sorts. And one-portion supermarkets cakes. And carrot cake. And crisps of all flavours. And even rhubarb crumble
